Invites - UGame network

April 23rd, 2008

UGame Users Page

I have 5 invites for the Facebook for gamers community site UGame Network.

UGame is a community site, currently in its beta, which functions like Facebook, but for gamers. The site allows you to upload pictures, share your achievements, rate games and create groups (private and public). In my opinion, the site is nothing special. If you are a Facebook addict, there are apps that you can install if you want to connect with other gamers.

Invites - Social Thing

April 20th, 2008

Social Thing LogoI have 20 invites to Social Thing.

It is another friends’ activity aggregator, similar to FriendFeed, but with fewer features. At least for now. Looks like the developers are working on adding more monitored services. But since I visited it last, a month or so ago, there haven’t been any new choices. When adding micro blogging services, like Pownce and Twitter, you are able to post to them from inside Social Thing, but that’s something you can do now-a-days from any integrating site.

Invites - Evernote

April 14th, 2008

I have 10 invites for web notes service Evernote. Evernote is like ClipMarks, except you can save more that clippings, like images and text, from web sites. Both web services offer a desktop client/web browser plugin, but with Evernote you can also submit clippings from your cell phone.

If you want an invite just leave me a comment. In the form below use the email you want the invite send to.

FON’s personnel must be high!

April 2nd, 2008

This post was delayed for some time, but that’s because I forgot about it. So, it remained as a draft. But, here it is…

FON, once again you show how pathetic you are. Yes, some of the views and practices of the FON’s underlinks can be silly.

FON’s new site “twitxr”.com (no link for you) is pronounced “twitcher” according to their newsletter. I have nothing left but to wonder - “FON … HOW THE FUCK DID YOU GET “CHE” out of X, pronounced “EKS” or “KS”.”. Hens the true pronunciation of the word – twitksr or twitkser. Yet, looking at it again, you might by trying to combine “tx”, but then it only ends up sounding like “teks”, which reminds me of Kotex. I am positive that a ladies product is not exactly what you are trying to convey to potential users.

Way to go FON!!

Of course, I could be wrong. FON is an international organization, and an example of the letter x or combination of the letters tx pronounced as che in another language would be appreciated. BUT, this site does target an English speaking audience, which is probably why we had to be told how to pronounce this tong tying confusion.

Domain Record Info

March 25th, 2008

I wanted a way to quickly view the record information on a domain, but I did not want anyone tracking domains I look up. Or like some bad registrars, have any possible domain I look up end up as registered thanks to the ICANN grace period and overpriced registrars trying to extort money before selling the domain.

So, I ended up searching for possible WhoIs scripts and how one could query the domain record information and ended up coming across the whois.php script, which is currently utilized on Domain Record Info. Also accessed via WhoIsMesh.com and DomaIndex.Info.

There are few other options/functions I would like to add to the page - ping, dns report, and various help and tutorials information. Eventually I would like to do something similar to DNS Stuff, but for the moment it will have to wait. Right now I have many other projects.

Classic Rock, Classic Look

March 24th, 2008

mixwit.com allows you to make your own virtual mix tape. You can search for any song or band you would like to hear, and then via a drag and drop interface you can select the songs you want and arrange them in any way you want. Once you are done with your selection, you can pick your own tape design, color, font and so forth. Then, thanks to Gigya, you can embed your song selection on any social network, your blog or a web page.

I like Queen, so I have created a play list, that includes the first 15 Queen songs from the search results, and have embedded it below. Enjoy!

ColonelTribune

ColonelTribune (ColonelTribune) is now following your updates on Twitter.

Check out ColonelTribune’s profile here:

I wonder why is the Chicago Tribune linking to so many twitterers! Is the newspaper tracking down locals on Twitter trying to gain back some of its readers, because the newspaper industry is dying and more and more readers/subscribers are lost to the web and up to the minute news reports? Or is it trying to gain new readers by showing that it is a newspaper that is “cool” and runs with the web crowd.

With today’s integration of Twitter into all possible CMSs, someone is spending a lot of time finding Chicagoans, and I think the Chicago Tribune is trying out to save itself from drowning by trying various methods and options. But, just like many others in the next few years it will either go close to 100% digital or die. If and when it goes completely digital it will have some serious competition from already established news sources with a long following by the web crowd.

Which will it be?

March 19th, 2008

I have been using Twitter for a long time. It is at the top of the microblogging structure. I also use Jaiku and Pownce, but I think that Tumblr has something to offer, something to compete with against the rest of them. I would say Pownce comes the closes, as far as features, when compared with Tumblr.

Users can have custom themes, in addition to being able to edit the provided themes code and throw enhancements to the pages. Just like I did earlier with Disqus! Tumblr has plenty of room to grow when it comes to features to be added. But in my opinion it is the better one of all of them.

I hope that it will soon pick up speed and become more popular amongst the microblogging community. I did try to find a Wordpress plugin that integrated Tumblr the way Alex Kings plugin integrates Twitter. But, I did not even find one that can interact with it. Helpfully soon someone will produce something.

I have arranged all of my microblogs feeds here. It is much easier to follow and read then this way.
