Comcast gets owned by the FCC. Well, sort of.

Around the World, Critic's Realm, Featured, Techie August 1st, 2008

Another win for Net Neutrality. Today it was reported that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) “disciplined” Crap…Comcast for their violation of their customers basic write to access information on the Internet. I say disciplined, because comcast was not punished via a financial burden. They were just told “you were bad. Don’t do it again. Fix it.”. It is hard for people and especially for companies to learn their lesson, when negative reinforcement is not used. Comcast was not punished, so they have noting to loss. If they had to pay fins, for example in the form of free or discounted service for their customers, then they, as the money garbing leach that the company and its operators are, will think twice before violation the freedom of access to information and data of real people and some intangible IP (Internet Protocol or Intellectual Property) address.

Now, because they were not cause to pay fines, the operators of the company will have learned, in their attempt #1, what they can do. Because the company did not have to pay fines, it will again try to throttle its network, but at its second attempt it will know how far it can go with certain actions and how to hide its procedures better.

Justin.tv helps in burglary thanks to people with no social live!

Featured, Video June 20th, 2008

Justin.TV logoA Justin.TV member was victimized by his neighbors who burglarized his apartment. Thanks to other members of the CDN a video of that burglary was isolated. After watching for a while, I can say that those who just site there and watch others through their web cams must have either a voyeuristic issues or no lives. Personally I could hardly watch more than few minutes from the burglary video and I had to run the commentary/interview video in the background and just listen to it, but not without skipping few times.

Also, listening to how members of the community talk, I can say that even though they might not know each other they are more open to sharing and conversing. I guess exposing your life for everyone to watch has to come with extrovert personality.

Evolution of a blog

Announcements, Design, Twitter June 3rd, 2008

I have decided to change the blog’s theme once again. I want to go with something more professional. I chose BlueBird, because I wanted something less busy, more open and, at the time, I was also high on the Twitter wave.

Lately I have been kind of burned out on Twitter! I am not as excited or obsessed with it, although I do still look forward to connecting with friends and posting random things. I guess everything comes in waves. At least that’s how it is with me. I obsess with something for couple of days to couple of weeks and then I move on.

Anyhow, back to the looks of my blog. I want to have something plain, which will present the content in easy to the eyes fashion. I don’t want to have busy pages, either. I think I will start with trying out few different theme. Currently I am deicing between Mimbo Pro, The Studio and maybe Unbound. I will test their appeal and organization of the content, but I think, at the end, I just might just create my own theme from modifying the classic WordPress them. Just like I did many years ago, when I first started using Wordpress. I would provide some examples, but the Archive.org does not have that many archived copies of my site. Besides, I think this was probably before the total data loss I suffered in July of 2004.

After I have settled on a theme or have created my own, I will reorganize the pages and the content their provide. Then maybe I will finally complete the About page. I am doing this, because I want to make my blog more useful. I want to start posting better articles and attract new and regular visitors. Eventually I would like to also have a forum community.

We will have to see who this will go. I see this as “The Evolution of a personal blog”, the evolution of my blog. Looking through old posts and remembering old designs I can trace the changes in my way of thinking and writing. I am definitely more mature and interested to provided something useful and not just random ramblings. Well … for most part. It IS a journey after all. Correct?!

Progress and development is a must.

Annual theme change.

General, Techie, Twitter May 2nd, 2008

This blog underwent the annual theme change. This year I wanted to go with something simple, something plain, but still very functional and pleasing to the eye. Seeing that Twitter is so big (popular), and as I mentioned in a tweet (Micro post.) from earlier today, I have decided to mainly use Twitter, if I am going to use a micro-blog platform, at all. So what better than have a matching Wordpress theme - Blue Bird by Randa Clay.

I have made bunch of changes to the theme and I am pretty much done with reorganizing my blog. Just making it more user friendly.

Twitter Tool - I love you, I hate you!

General, Techie May 1st, 2008

The Twitter Tool, a Wordpress plugin, is an awesome tool. I love that it posts to my Twitter account whenever I make a post on my blog. It also provides me with the ability to make new tweets (Micro posts.) from my blog’s sidebar and from within the Wordpress administrator menu. But the feature I find most valuable is the Twitter digest. The plugin creates a blog post with the day’s tweets, thus creating a back up of my Twitter activity. This is also the feature, which makes me HATE this plugin.

The damn thing creates the digest posts, which are scheduled to appear at midnight with the days tweets, but it generates the posts 4 to 6 hours prior to midnight, right before my active time and thus missing my tweets from the day the post is supposed to reflect. I tried contacting Alex, the creator of the plugin, weeks ago, but I never received a peep from him. I told him about the problem and asked him how can I tweak the code to compensate for this problem, but like I said - not a peep.

It is a love-hate relationship.Unfortunately there isn’t another plugin like it. I guess I will just have to spend the time looking through the source code, line by line, until I figure out how it all works and what needs to be changed to resolve this headache. It won’t be the first time I have had to improve a plugin.

New Topics

Announcements April 1st, 2008

I have decided to add a few new topic categories. They being: Videos, Useful Sites and Today I Learned. I decided to do this, because during my usual vocations I come across a variety of websites, topics and entertainment media. Some of this I think are very much useful, interesting or entertaining, and this is a way to remember them, as well as promote them.

In the Video category I will be posting videos that are funny, interesting, gameplay or show something useful, like do-it-yourself instructions. Useful Sites will be used for website which offer technical information or some web service. And Today I Learned will be used for random things, not necessarily related to the Internet.
